Renowned trainer Abel Sanchez has doubts about Conor Benn successfully making the 147-pound limit for his WBC welterweight title fight with Ryan Garcia this weekend without compromising his performance.
Sanchez told Fight Hub TV that Benn should have started cutting weight earlier in camp and expressed concern the British fighter will enter the ring weakened. Garcia, moving up in weight, will be the naturally fuller fighter at the limit, Sanchez said, which could prove decisive in the later rounds.

Sanchez Predicts Garcia Power Takes Over
"The thing that I find hard to understand is how can Conor make 147?" Sanchez said, per Bad Left Hook. "Is it fair to Ryan because now he's going to be fighting a depleted guy and nobody's going to give him the credit, or is it fair to Conor to go into a fight against a fighter like Ryan who's coming up so at 147 he's going to be full?"
Sanchez acknowledged Benn could box Garcia competitively for four or five rounds if the weight cut goes smoothly, but believes Garcia's power will eventually break him down. The veteran trainer compared a potential late-fight scenario to Moses Itauma's recent exhaustion, saying Benn could fade similarly if drained from the scale.

"Ryan is a smaller guy coming up so he's going to be full at 147," Sanchez added. "His power and his pressure and just like he did with Barrios, he's going to manhandle Conor if he has no strength."
Friday's weigh-in will reveal whether Benn makes the contracted weight comfortably or arrives visibly drawn. The fight takes place Saturday night.
