Cormier On Parnasse's Historic UFC Paris Debut

Daniel Cormier believes Salahdine Parnasse delivered the best UFC debut he has ever witnessed.

The former two-division champion told viewers on his YouTube channel that Parnasse's first-round stoppage of Dan Hooker at Accor Arena this past Saturday stands apart from every other promotional debut in UFC history. The French lightweight dominated the veteran contender in front of a home crowd, and Cormier noted how rare it is for fighters to look that sharp when stepping up from regional promotions.

Parnasse's KSW Experience Sets Him Apart

Cormier pointed to Parnasse's extensive title fight experience with KSW as a key factor. "I don't know that we have seen a person have that level of high-level of experience going into the octagon since maybe Alistair Overeem," he said, per MMA Fighting. The French fighter defended belts at both lightweight and featherweight in Poland before making the jump to UFC, logging 12 total title bouts before Saturday.

Even accomplished fighters from Bellator have struggled with the transition, Cormier noted, citing Patricio Pitbull's initial difficulties despite his dominance elsewhere. Michael Chandler performed well in his debut but faced challenges afterward. Aaron Pico stumbled before finding his footing in his second appearance.

Cormier acknowledged that Parnasse's grappling defense remains untested against elite competition and suggested Paddy Pimblett could present a difficult stylistic matchup. Parnasse called for a fight with Max Holloway after the win. The victory was his 11th in 12 outings and immediately slots him into the lightweight title picture. "Get excited, because we have a brand new contender at 155," Cormier said.
