Rousey Blasts UFC Executive After MVP MMA Success

Ronda Rousey says UFC Chief Business Officer Hunter Campbell does not know how to market talent after her May fight with Gina Carano drew more than 17 million viewers on Netflix.

Rousey, who headlined the inaugural MVP MMA event at Intuit Dome, told Fight Culture that Campbell passed on the matchup when she was still under contract. She called him a chauvinist for telling Carano he did not know how to market two fighters in their 40s, per MMA Fighting.

Rousey Says Campbell Allowed Creation Of UFC Rival

Rousey went further in the Fight Culture interview, saying Campbell's limitation is not specific to female fighters. She said the executive does not know how to market anybody and that by letting her and Carano leave, the UFC created its biggest rival. She compared the situation to allowing someone to build a Lamborghini next to a Ferrari.

The May 16 card featured several former UFC fighters including Mike Perry, Nate Diaz, Francis Ngannou and Junior dos Santos. Rousey has not committed to fighting again but said she hopes Most Valuable Promotions stages more events with Diaz as a mainstay. She said MMA needs fewer weekly shows and more major events that feel like occasions.

The UFC has since signed multiple fighters who competed on the MVP MMA card, including Salahdine Parnasse and Robelis Despaigne. Namo Fazil has been booked for Dana White's Contender Series.
