Rodriguez Transported To Hospital After UFC Belgrade KO
Daniel Rodriguez was transported to a local hospital following his brutal knockout loss at UFC Belgrade on Saturday night.
UFC officials confirmed to MMA Mania that Rodriguez and bantamweight Mark Vologdin were both taken for precautionary CT scans after sustaining damage in their respective bouts at Belgrade Arena. Rodriguez absorbed a 30-second knockout from Uros Medic in the main event, snapping a three-fight win streak that included a decision over Kevin Holland at UFC 318 and a stoppage of Santiago Ponzinibbio.
Rodriguez Returns After Eight-Month Prison Stint
The 39-year-old welterweight fought for the first time since spending eight months locked up in a Tijuana prison following his victory over Holland last July. According to the report, that incarceration served as less than ideal preparation for his first UFC headliner.
Vologdin fell to 0-1-1 inside the Octagon after dropping a three-round decision to Serbian rookie Borislav Nikolic. The 26-year-old Russian absorbed significant damage across fifteen minutes and was taken for the same precautionary scans as Rodriguez. MMA Mania noted that size has become a real issue for Vologdin at bantamweight and suggested he consider dropping to flyweight if possible.
Results of the scans have not been disclosed. UFC typically transports fighters to hospitals after knockout losses or particularly violent decisions as a standard safety measure.
