McKenna vows to unleash 18 months of gym work at middleweight

Stevie McKenna says he is ready to attack after an 18-month layoff. The middleweight debutant promises an explosive return when he steps back into the ring this weekend.

“Yeah, it's great being back in fight week again. It was a long 18 months, but I spent 18 months in the gym training hard, so I'm bigger and stronger now. I'm fighting at middleweight, and I just can't wait to be unleashed, really. I'm like a lion ready to get out of the cage and attack.”

What Stevie McKenna said

McKenna has not fought since early 2023. The layoff kept him in the gym rather than out of it, and he used the time to add size for a move up to middleweight. His new weight class brings fresh opposition and a chance to rebuild momentum.

What it moves

McKenna's return sets up a test of whether the extended camp translated into ring sharpness. The middleweight division will get its first look at a fighter who claims the break made him bigger and stronger rather than rusty.
