Caoimhin Agyarko has said uncertainty over his title path left him heartbroken after a previous fight cancellation. The middleweight now faces Josh Kelly for a title in his next outing.

“I was heartbroken at the time [when the Adams fight was cancelled] and didn't know what was going to happen after, whether I was going to have to fight in another eliminator or get the title fight, or even be left on the sidelines again”

What Caoimhin Agyarko said

Agyarko had been scheduled to fight Adams in an eliminator before the bout fell through. The Belfast fighter was then left waiting for clarity on whether he would need to fight another eliminator or advance directly to a title shot.

What it moves

The Kelly assignment resolves months of doubt for Agyarko, who feared being sidelined indefinitely. Speaking to BBC Sport, he said he was heartbroken at the time the Adams fight was cancelled and didn't know what was going to happen after, whether he was going to have to fight in another eliminator or get the title fight, or even be left on the sidelines again. The bout gives him the shot he was chasing.
