Prates Warns Makhachev Ahead Of Title Shot
Carlos Prates is already deep in camp for his expected welterweight title shot against Islam Makhachev.
The Brazilian knockout artist posted training footage to Instagram on Thursday, according to Sherdog, with a pointed message for the champion. "Yes, Makhachev... Whatever I'm going through here at this gym, somebody is going to pay for it," Prates said in the clip. "And guess who's going to pay? You!"
Prates Predicts Makhachev's First Welterweight Loss
Prates followed up with a second post declaring Makhachev's record would read 29-2 after they fight. "Davai brother! 29-2!" he wrote, using the Russian word for "come on." Makhachev defended his 170-pound strap against Ian Garry in August and recently told media he wants to return before Ramadan, targeting late 2026 or early 2027 for his second welterweight defense.
The UFC has not officially announced Prates as the next challenger, but Makhachev singled him out in post-fight interviews. Prates enters with a 24-7 record and momentum from several highlight-reel finishes at welterweight.
A booking timeline is expected once Makhachev's camp confirms availability in the coming weeks.
