Overeem On McGregor's UFC 329 Collapse

Former UFC heavyweight Alistair Overeem says Conor McGregor is finished as a fighter and his failed UFC 329 comeback was nothing more than a cash grab.

McGregor blew out his knee 69 seconds into his return against Max Holloway last month after a five-year absence from the octagon. The Irishman now faces another lengthy layoff following surgery on the injury.

Overeem Questions McGregor's Fighter Lifestyle

Overeem told Bloody Elbow that McGregor's body was already done five years ago and the return served only UFC's financial interests. The 46-year-old Dutch veteran questioned whether McGregor maintains the discipline required at the highest level.

"You look at his face — when you're a fighter you can look at another man and kind of see what's up — and he's just not the same guy, he's not a fighter," Overeem said, per the report. "For him to perform on the biggest stage? With all due respect I'm not seeing that for him any more."

McGregor has recently embraced a religious lifestyle after previously acknowledging issues with drugs and alcohol contributed to his behavior outside the cage.

Overeem, who holds a 47-19 record with one no-contest, is targeting his own comeback this year with a potential trilogy against kickboxing champion Rico Verhoeven.
