Morales On Standby For Makhachev-Garry At UFC 330
The UFC has locked in an undefeated welterweight as the backup for its Philadelphia title fight next month.
Michael Morales will make championship weight and remain on standby for the Islam Makhachev vs. Ian Garry main event at UFC 330 on Aug. 15 at Xfinity Mobile Arena, Sherdog reports. The 19-0 Ecuadorian prospect has been instructed to hit 170 pounds in case either the champion or challenger pulls out.
Morales Riding Three-Fight Knockout Streak
Morales enters the standby role off the biggest win of his career, a first-round knockout of Sean Brady last November. The Dana White Contender Series alum has rattled off three straight Performance of the Night bonuses and remained unbeaten through seven Octagon appearances.
Makhachev carries a 28-1 record into the bout, while Garry stands at 17-1. The assignment marks another step up for Morales, who has built momentum as one of the division's fastest-rising contenders.
UFC 330 takes place Aug. 15 in Philadelphia. Morales will weigh in at championship weight and stay ready through fight week.
