Miragliotta Blasted For Reset That Changed UFC Vegas 123

Referee Dan Miragliotta drew fierce criticism for a controversial reset that altered the course of Saturday's UFC Vegas 123 main event.

Tom Nolan extended his win streak to six with a third-round knockout over Renato Moicano, but the finish came moments after Miragliotta forced a standup with Moicano controlling Nolan's back on the mat late in the second round. Nolan landed a damaging knee seconds after the reset, swinging momentum permanently in his favor before stopping an exhausted Moicano with ground strikes in Round 3, as MMA Fighting first reported.

Pros Denounce Miragliotta's Standup Decision

UFC lightweight Terrance McKinney captured the sentiment across social media. "He capitalized, but the ref won that one," McKinney wrote on Twitter. "Crazy work standing that up."

The reset came with Moicano in a dominant position, prompting widespread condemnation from fighters and analysts who saw the intervention as unnecessary. Whether Nolan would have eventually reversed the fight without the standup remains unknown, but the sequence marked one of the most disputed officiating calls of the year.

Nolan now rides a six-fight winning streak as the lightweight division takes stock of the controversial finish.
