Mederos Stops Jones With Vicious Elbows At UFC Sacramento

MarQuel Mederos became the first fighter to finish Mason Jones, weathering heavy fire before unleashing a series of vicious elbows that left the Welshman on his feet but defenseless in the second round at UFC Sacramento on Saturday night.

The lightweight brawl delivered the violence both men promised. Jones pushed a high pace from the opening bell, landing combinations and sweeping Mederos with a low kick in the first frame, per MMA Fighting. The momentum seemed to be with Jones as he surged into the second round, connecting on another combination before walking into a fight-ending elbow.

How Mederos Turned The Fight With Elbows

After absorbing Jones' best shots, Mederos backed his opponent to the fence and caught him clean with a short elbow that rocked him badly. Three more elbow strikes followed in rapid succession, leaving Jones upright but finished. Referee Jason Herzog stepped in at 2:07 of Round 2. Jones never hit the canvas but had stopped defending intelligently.

Mederos improved to 12-1-1 overall and 4-0-1 in the UFC, per MMA Mania. Jones dropped to 18-3 and suffered his first loss since re-signing with the promotion in 2025, snapping a three-fight winning streak in his second UFC stint. Mederos was ahead on the scorecards entering the second round and never let Jones recover once the elbows began landing.

The finish marked a breakthrough moment for Mederos, who now holds the best scalp of his young UFC career. He fights next against a ranked lightweight, likely in late 2026.
