Jorge Masvidal says he is in active negotiations with the UFC over a comeback fight, with Leon Edwards among his preferred opponents.

The former welterweight title challenger told MMA Junkie that a deal could materialise this year or early in 2027, and that financial terms are trending in the right direction. "I've been talking to the UFC," Masvidal said, per MMA Junkie. "Could be this year, could be early next year. We've been talking for a little bit and the numbers are getting closer and closer and better and better, so there might be some big news coming soon."

Closing The Chapter On Edwards

Masvidal and Edwards have unfinished business dating to March 2019, when Masvidal punched the Englishman backstage at the O2 Arena in London after Edwards confronted him. "Leon is definitely a prospect," Masvidal said. "Leon is definitely someone I would like to go back in and close that chapter out." The 41-year-old has not fought in the UFC since April 2023 and later received a conditional release to box Nate Diaz, a bout he lost on a majority decision.

Masvidal is winless in his last five UFC outings and has not recorded a victory inside the octagon since November 2019. Whether the promotion books a legacy bout for an ageing veteran remains an open question, though Masvidal indicated he is waiting for both the right name and the right purse before committing to a date.
