Makhachev Plans Three More Fights Before Retirement

UFC welterweight champion Islam Makhachev plans at least three more fights before he considers hanging up his gloves.

Speaking to reporters in Russia after his UFC 330 win over Ian Machado Garry, Makhachev dismissed longtime UFC commentator Joe Rogan's suggestion that he might retire with a victory in Philadelphia. The 34-year-old dropped Garry with a head kick in the second round and controlled most of the bout with his grappling for a unanimous decision, per MMA Fighting.

Makhachev Eyes Title Defense Record At Welterweight

Makhachev told media members he wants to extend his streak for most consecutive UFC wins and sees quality contenders ahead. "In my weight class I have some very good title contenders," he said, according to footage posted by Ushatayka. "I think I have at least three more spectacular and very tough fights for me."

Carlos Prates and Michael Morales both attended UFC 330 and figure as top challengers. Morales stopped Sean Brady in November 2025, while Prates has surged up the rankings. Makhachev has stated he prefers facing Prates next because Morales has been too inactive, though the final matchmaking call rests with UFC brass.

The pound-for-pound king turns 35 in October but showed no signs of slowing against Garry despite his face taking damage in the clash. His next title defense is expected to be announced in the coming weeks.
