Islam Makhachev said nobody likes Ian Machado Garry after Philadelphia fans booed the Irishman relentlessly at Thursday's UFC 330 press conference.

Garry drew boos from the moment he spoke, according to MMA Fighting. The welterweight challenger fired back by predicting the crowd would turn after he won the belt Saturday night. Makhachev, meanwhile, received loud cheers whenever he addressed the room.

The lightweight-turned-welterweight champion offered his take on why fans rejected his opponent so coldly. "No, I'm not surprised," Makhachev said, per MMA Fighting. "I know. Nobody likes Ian Garry, myself also. Because people are confused which country you represent. Brazil or Ireland? People don't know. People know who they have to support."

Garry attempted to brush off the hostile reception, saying he was living his dream by competing for a world title. When the challenger invoked the legacy of Abdulmanap Nurmagomedov — Khabib's late father and Makhachev's first coach — the champion shut him down immediately. "Shut up," Makhachev told him.

Makhachev can break Anderson Silva's UFC record with his 17th consecutive win and defend his welterweight title for the first time when the two meet Saturday night at UFC 330 in Philadelphia.
