Vieira had already drawn attention by missing the featherweight limit by more than seven pounds, turning her title challenge into a non-title fight at 153 pounds. Cyborg made weight and won her 30th pro MMA fight over five rounds. Vieira blamed severe kidney and stomach pain for the missed weight, and later said the positive test came from medication she used for a knee injury.

Cyborg, 41, called the situation “extremely unusual.” “I still accepted the fight and stepped into the cage knowing I would be giving up a significant physical advantage,” Cyborg.

She declined to criticize Vieira personally. “Ketlen, I respect you. I know what it takes to step into that cage. I wish you nothing but success moving forward,” Cyborg.
