Jones Maintains Innocence On Steroid Tests

Tom Rashid
UFC & MMA Lead Writer ·

Jon Jones maintains he never used steroids despite multiple positive drug tests that cost him a heavyweight title and a light heavyweight victory.

The former two-division UFC champion told ALF Global that expensive scientists proved the substances found in his system came from contaminated supplements and appeared in amounts too small to enhance performance. "It took very expensive scientists to be able to even find it, and the supplement that was found in my body has zero performance-enhancing effects — zero," Jones said, per MMA Junkie.

Jones' History Of Failed Tests

Jones tested positive for Clomiphene and Letrozole ahead of UFC 200, then failed again for Turinabol at UFC 214, turning his victory over Daniel Cormier into a no contest. He served 15 months for that infraction. The picogram controversy at UFC 232 and UFC 235 followed, with Jones claiming the trace amounts resulted from pulsing rather than fresh ingestion.

Jones questioned critics who call him both a knucklehead and a genius capable of fooling USADA. "It's like, which one is it? Am I the knucklehead or the mad genius, who somehow got away with using steroids?" he said in the interview.

The 39-year-old remains under UFC contract but has no fight scheduled. His record stands at 28-1 with one no contest.
