McGregor Blames Dry Ice For UFC 329 Injury

Tom Rashid
UFC & MMA Lead Writer ·

Conor McGregor has blamed dry ice for the leg injury that ended his UFC 329 comeback against Max Holloway after just seconds.

In an Instagram post spotted by BJ Penn, McGregor claimed the canvas was wet from dry ice used during his walkout and argued the bout should be overturned to a no contest. "Sorry I'm late, but the dry ice has the cage floor wet," he wrote. "It's a no-contest now chop chop for the champ champ I'll see ya's next year 100%."

McGregor Vows 2027 Return After ACL Tear

McGregor tore his ACL and meniscus off a missed spinning kick in the opening seconds of the fight, his first appearance in five years. The injury puts him on the shelf for up to a year. He has repeatedly promised to return in 2027, potentially for a trilogy with Holloway.

Holloway is expected to fight at least once more before entertaining another McGregor matchup. A bout with Paddy Pimblett has been floated as a possibility for the former featherweight champion's next outing.

McGregor is currently rehabbing the torn ligament and meniscus, with training resuming in the coming months. No timeline has been set for his next fight.
