Jones Denies Steroid Claims After Retirement

Jon Jones rejected accusations he used performance-enhancing drugs during his career, telling fans the trace substances found in his system came from contaminated supplements and not intentional doping.

The retired heavyweight champion addressed the allegations in an interview with ALF Global, as BJPenn.com first reported. Jones has faced questions throughout his run about two failed drug tests — one that scrapped his UFC 200 rematch with Daniel Cormier after he popped for clomiphene and letrozole, and another that turned his 2017 win over Cormier into a no contest after testing positive for turinabol.

Jones Points To Tainted Supplement Defense

"Never took steroids," Jones said. "It was a supplement found in my body. It was proven to come from a supplement company that I was using. The amount of this substance that was in my body was so small that it took very expensive scientists to even be able to find it, and the supplement that was found in my body has zero performance-enhancing effects. That's very well-documented, and for some reason, the fans, they just ignore all that."

Jones was cleared in the turinabol case after arbitrators determined the trace amount came from a tainted dietary supplement. His name was later removed from the list of violations, though the no contest result against Cormier stood. The clomiphene and letrozole positive was attributed to a contaminated male enhancement pill.

The former heavyweight/" class="internal-link text-bone underline decoration-ash/30 hover:decoration-gold underline-offset-2">light heavyweight and heavyweight champion stopped Stipe Miocic in the third round at UFC 311 back in November 2024 to retain his heavyweight strap. He announced his retirement in June 2025 but has hinted at a return if the right opportunity surfaces. Jones attempted to secure a spot on the UFC Freedom 250 card earlier this year, though that plan fell through.
