Cordina Faces Trial After Petrol Station Incident

Former world champion Joe Cordina will face trial in October after denying two assault charges connected to an altercation outside a Cardiff petrol station.

The incident occurred at a Texaco garage in Pentwyn in February, according to the BBC. Jamie O'Brien, 33, pleaded guilty to assaulting Cordina by beating during a court appearance at Cardiff Magistrates' Court and received a conditional discharge plus £111 in costs and surcharges.

Mental Health Crisis Behind February Altercation

Judge Murphy heard O'Brien was experiencing what authorities described as a mental health crisis at the time of the incident. O'Brien was detained under the Mental Health Act shortly after the confrontation, per the BBC's court reporting.

Cordina, who has held the IBF featherweight/" class="internal-link text-bone underline decoration-ash/30 hover:decoration-gold underline-offset-2">super-featherweight title, denies both counts of assault by beating against O'Brien. His trial is scheduled for October at Cardiff Magistrates' Court.
