Jermall Charlo Vs. Thomas LaManna Preview
Jermall Charlo will box Thomas LaManna on May 31, as we preview this upcoming fight.
Charlo enters into the fight with plenty to prove, as he boxes at 168 for the first time. The former WBC Middleweight Champion has just had one fight since 2021. He had been absent from the sport for more than two years after suffering from his struggles with mental health. He came back with a victory against Jose Benavidez Jr. in 2023. Despite his attempts to secure more fights, things never materialized. Things were not helped after Charlo was arrested for DWI, as he was then stripped by the WBC of his middleweight title. A win sets up a possible Plant fight later down the line.
Meanwhile, LaManna is on an incredible run of form. His current record stands at 39-5-1, with five knockouts to his name. His last four fights have been by way of knockout, showing Charlo will have to be wary. LaManna’s last defeat came in 2021 against Erislandy Lara, as he will be highly confident.
Pre-Fight
"It’s been a journey and a long time coming. I’m going up to 168 to make a statement. I’ve been focused and locked in. I wanna get this fight out of the way and possibly get it on with Caleb Plant. I have big plans in the works, so keep it locked in. I just miss boxing, period. I miss getting up and just focusing on boxing, and I’m back to doing that at the highest level. The sky’s the limit for me at this weight. I’m sparring bigger guys and I can lift more now. I’m squatting more than I ever did and using my body more than I ever did. I feel like this is the division I’m gonna end my career in. You’re gonna see me go out and be more explosive than you’ve ever seen me before in my life," Charlo stated
"I definitely have the momentum over Charlo. But we have to let the fights happen. We’re gonna find out on May 31. “We had a smart camp and did what we had to do. We had the right sparring and worked on the right tactics. I’m in shape and I’ve filled into 168 well. … I felt the difference fighting at 168 in my last fight. I feel energized and don’t have to cut weight. Being a good person, I care about Charlo’s mental health struggles and know that it’s real. But as far as boxing, I don’t care about it at all. It is what it is. We’re still gonna fight. I’m not looking ahead to anything. I’m fully focused on this fight. But when I get past Charlo, I want it all. I want the biggest fights out there," LaManna said
