Hearn On Crawford-Ennis Superfight Possibility

Eddie Hearn still believes Terence Crawford versus Jaron Ennis can happen despite Crawford's retirement announcement last December.

The Matchroom Boxing CEO told The Ring that the superfight could materialize if Ennis becomes the undisputed 154-pound champion. Ennis currently holds the WBA and WBO titles at junior middleweight and is expected to face IBF champion Josh Kelly later this year before a potential clash with WBC titleholder Sebastian Fundora.

Crawford and Ennis Trade Words on DAZN

The two fighters exchanged barbs during Friday's broadcast of Damian Knyba's win over Andy Ruiz. Crawford questioned why Ennis had not yet fought Vergil Ortiz, while Ennis called Crawford "easy work" when pressed by host Adam Lefkoe. Crawford fired back by referencing the third round of Ennis's June fight with Xander Zayas, suggesting a similar outcome would occur between them. Ennis stopped Zayas in the seventh round to claim unified status.

"I've wanted this fight for so long," Hearn said, per The Ring. "I rate Crawford so highly, but I'm just such a huge believer in Jaron Ennis. I think this is going to be the fight. It's going to be the biggest fight in boxing."

Crawford retired after beating Canelo Alvarez for the undisputed middleweight/" class="internal-link text-bone underline decoration-ash/30 hover:decoration-gold underline-offset-2">super middleweight championship a year ago. The 38-year-old has maintained he has no plans to return, though Hearn thinks Crawford's competitive nature could pull him back.

Fundora defends his WBC belt against Ermal Hadribeaj on October 17 at The Cosmopolitan in Las Vegas.
