Baumgardner Dismisses Dubois After Lackluster Win

Alycia Baumgardner has no interest in facing Caroline Dubois next, saying the lightweight champion looked ordinary in her latest outing and should fight Stephanie Han before earning a unification shot.

Baumgardner, who is preparing to defend her featherweight/" class="internal-link text-bone underline decoration-ash/30 hover:decoration-gold underline-offset-2">super featherweight titles against Elif Nur Turhan, dismissed Dubois' recent performance on The Last Stand podcast, per Bad Left Hook. "I didn't see anything special," Baumgardner said. "I could really dissect and know exactly how to beat her."

Baumgardner Says Dubois Going Backwards

The former undisputed featherweight/" class="internal-link text-bone underline decoration-ash/30 hover:decoration-gold underline-offset-2">super featherweight champion questioned whether Dubois deserves the next fight, suggesting the London native has regressed rather than improved. She pointed out that Turhan, her upcoming opponent, is a fighter Dubois previously avoided. "This is somebody that she had an opportunity," Baumgardner said. "So, again, I'm stepping up to the plate to do something you didn't want to do."

Baumgardner proposed that Dubois face Han, the other top contender at lightweight, before discussing a unification bout. "Let them two fight and let me fight the winner and then we can decide who's going to actually be the best at 135 to compete with me," she said. She also brushed off Claressa Shields offering to help Dubois prepare for a potential clash, saying even multiple Shields in Dubois' corner would not matter.

Baumgardner also weighed in on Mikaela Mayer's split decision loss to Chantelle Cameron, saying she scored it narrowly for Mayer but credited Cameron's aggression. She suggested Mayer, despite having all the tools, is missing something and needs to reassess her approach. Baumgardner faces Turhan later this year before any lightweight move materializes.
