Gary Russell Jr. Says Team Is "Adamant" About Making Shakur Stevenson Fight
Gary Russell Jr. says negotiations are ongoing for a fight between his brother Gary Antuanne Russell and Shakur Stevenson, though the financial terms haven't yet come together on his side.
"We are 110% in negotiation to try to make this fight with Shakur Stevenson. First, I want to say we were the first ones to try to make the fight with Shakur, they tried to say they wanted to go in a different direction. And now out of nowhere Shakur pops up stating that he wants to unify and make a fight and etc. I believe Shakur really do want to make a fight but I question if the people around him or his team around him really want to make a fight happen because the numbers don't reflect that," Russell Jr.
Russell Jr. also pushed back on a report that he turned down a $2 million offer for the fight: "It was never a $2M purse, just a FYI for everybody. They never mentioned $2M. Real men don't even speak figures but that wasn't the number. But we are adamant about trying to make this fight happen," Russell Jr.
