Lara Eases Past Gonzalez To Retain WBA Belt
The WBA Middleweight Champion Erislandy Lara retained his title with a comfortable unanimous decision win (118-108, 119-107, 120-106) over Johan Gonzalez, as you can see how the fight played out live.
The bout came about after Janibek Alimkhanuly (IBF and WBO champ) failed a VADA test for Meldonium, meaning their three-belt unification was no longer happening. Lara had racked up six wins in a row, most recently defeating Danny Garcia in September 2024. Janibek’s failed test gave Gonzalez the chance to secure a world title. He entered into the bout with a big split decision win against Jarrett Hurd in March, but he was not match for Lara.
