Dustin Poirier says Bud Light dropped him after arrest

Dustin Poirier no longer has a sponsorship deal with Bud Light after the beer company severed ties immediately following his arrest on public drunkenness charges at the Atlanta airport.

The former UFC interim lightweight champion told Yahoo Sports the brand pulled the trigger as soon as he posted bond. Poirier had starred in commercials and publicly represented Bud Light during fight week appearances, but the company recently edited him out of an advertisement featuring Bruce Buffer that aired during UFC broadcasts.

Poirier said the decision cost his family several hundred thousand dollars remaining on the contract, but he expressed no regrets about losing a sponsor whose product he plans to avoid. He told Yahoo that representing something he would not use himself felt wrong, adding that plenty of people drink responsibly but he is not one of them.

The Louisiana native was detained after getting removed from a flight and then allegedly trying to fight police officers at the airport. He has apologized repeatedly for the incident and praised the officers who defused the situation. Poirier said he has stopped drinking entirely since the arrest and called the episode a massive wakeup call.

The 35-year-old has not announced his next fight date since the incident.
