Till Set To Face Fighter He Openly Refused In UFC
Darren Till will face Yoel Romero in the main event of BKFC 94 on September 26 in Manchester, five years after he openly refused to fight the Cuban in the UFC.
BKFC executive Dave Feldman confirmed the matchup on The Ariel Helwani Show, per BJPenn.com. Romero last fought in the BKFC ring in September, stopping his opponent by TKO in his promotional debut. Till knocked out Aaron Chalmers with one punch at BKFC 90 in May.
Till's Change Of Heart On Romero Fight
The booking carries extra weight given Till's reaction when asked about Romero at the UFC 244 post-fight press conference in 2019. After beating Kelvin Gastelum in his middleweight debut, Till was asked about a potential Romero fight. "Oh fuck that guy, I don't ever want to fight him! He's a beast!" Till said, laughing.
In a recent statement, Till acknowledged those comments. "I've finally gotten over my years of trauma and nightmares of Yoel Romero," he said. Both men were top contenders at middleweight during their UFC runs, though the fight never materialized inside the Octagon.
The co-main event features middleweight champion David Mundell against UK boxing star Jack Cullen. The full BKFC 94 card is expected to be announced in the coming weeks.
