Dana White declines Saudi peace summit for boxing promoters

Tom Rashid
UFC & MMA Lead Writer ·

UFC president Dana White turned down an invitation to attend a peace summit organized by Saudi boxing power broker Turki Alalshikh to resolve escalating tensions between promoters. Asked about the proposed meeting after Sunday's Zuffa Boxing 08 card at the Cosmopolitan in Las Vegas, White dismissed any need for reconciliation. "I don't know what our issues would be. I'm good," he said, per MMA Mania.

Alalshikh, chairman of Saudi Arabia's General Entertainment Authority, floated the idea of bringing feuding promoters together as conflicts intensify between White's Zuffa Boxing and Eddie Hearn's Matchroom Boxing operation. White has claimed he will edge Hearn out of major fights, while Zuffa Boxing continues signing fighters previously aligned with Matchroom. Hearn, however, told media he has zero interest in making peace. "This war that I'm in with Dana White, I find so enjoyable," he said during a recent scrum.

White clarified that he does not view other MMA or boxing promoters as legitimate competition. "The competitors that I look at as competition right now are the NFL, the NBA, Major League Baseball, and the NHL," he told reporters. "None of these other guys matter to me. None of them on either side. We are not the same."

The summit idea appears connected to an upcoming Tyson Fury versus Anthony Joshua fight. Hearn has stated that signed contracts mandate the bout take place in the United Kingdom without White's involvement, countering speculation the fight could land in America. White suggested he already has full details on the matchup. "I have all the info," he said. "I know where it is, and never did I say it was in Las Vegas." White added that a peace summit might serve to clarify those details but maintained he sees no reason to attend.

The Fury-Joshua fight remains without an official date or confirmed venue.
