Crawford: Beating Charlo Makes Me An All-Time Great
Terence Crawford has revealed that a win over Jermell Charlo would make him one of the greatest of all time.
Crawford will already go down as a future hall-of-famer following his dominant victory over Errol Spence Jr.
Bud stopped the ‘Truth’ in the ninth-round, as he knocked down his rival three times, to secure a comprehensive victory.
As a result, Bud became the first undisputed welterweight champion of the four-belt era, and undisputed in two-weight classes.
In the aftermath, Crawford turned his attention to Charlo who is currently the undisputed junior middleweight champion.
However, that will change after Charlo fights Canelo Alvarez on September 30th, 2023.
The WBO will strip Charlo off his belt after failing to fight with his mandatory Tim Tszyu for over a year.
Thereafter, the Australian will become the full WBO champion. But even with that, a win over Charlo would make Crawford a lineal champion: that being the man who beat the man to secure the belts.
And with that, it would secure Crawford’s name in history.
"Outside of him [Spence], I was definitely looking at the Jermell Charlo fight, but they just stripped him of the WBO. So now it’s going to be kind of hard to be a three-weight world champion if you don’t come back and fight Tim Tszyu and be successful after his fight with Canelo.
"I want Errol and then Jermell. Those are two history-making fights that I want. That’s something I’ve wanted for a long time, and for that to come to fruition, all I’ve got is Jermell now to solidify myself as the all-time great of all boxing," Crawford
Nevertheless, Crawford is the WBO super champion at 147. As such, if Crawford were to move up to 154, he would automatically become a mandatory for Tszyu.
And if a victory did emerge, then all the pieces would be in place for a fight with Charlo who holds all the other belts. So moving forward, Crawford is in a great position to make history.
