Turki Alalshikh: No Final Decisions on Joshua vs Fury Venue or Date
Saudi Arabian boxing advisor Turki Alalshikh has moved to quiet weeks of conflicting reports about Anthony Joshua vs Tyson Fury, confirming via social media that no final decisions have been made on venue, date, or promotional structure. BoxingScene.com reports that Alalshikh plans to convene a summit with Dana White of Zuffa Boxing, Matchroom's Eddie Hearn, Frank Warren of Queensberry, Nick Khan, and DAZN to hammer out terms.
Joshua is committed to a July 25 warm-up against Kristian Prenga. Fury has teased an August 1 bout in Ireland but remains uncommitted to any interim fight. According to the report, Joshua signed a contract that calls for a November date in the UK and bars Zuffa from serving as lead promoter, while Fury's deal included different terms on timing and location with a clause preventing either Zuffa or Matchroom from taking the lead promotional role.
Broadcast Exclusivity Complicates Promotional Picture
Warren noted that a meeting among all parties is necessary before any specifics can be locked in. If Netflix airs the fight, broadcast exclusivity with DAZN may prevent Matchroom or Queensberry from officially promoting, Warren acknowledged. The promotional tug-of-war has grown testier in recent days as both Warren and Hearn bristled at White's public claims that he knows more about the fight than either of them.
Fury last week hinted at an alliance with White before declaring Alalshikh his promoter, the latest turn in a story that has produced more speculation than confirmed facts. The summit Alalshikh described will be the first time all stakeholders sit in the same room to reconcile the competing contract terms and broadcast interests that have stalled clarity on the biggest heavyweight fight in years.
