MMA Mania reports the loss is relatively small compared to the millions McGregor earned for his 69-second defeat at UFC 329 earlier this month in Las Vegas, and it remains unclear whether the wager was made with promotional money from a betting partner.
McGregor credits Christ after six-figure loss
After the final whistle, McGregor posted on X with an unexpected spin on the result. "And the winner is ... Christ!" he wrote, according to MMA Mania. The tweet — combining religious praise with a gambling loss — sparked debate in the replies, which may have been the intended effect for a fighter whose social media presence thrives on engagement.
McGregor's fighting career remains sidelined following knee surgery. The former two-division champion tore his ACL and meniscus throwing a pair of jumping kicks against Max Holloway at UFC 329, strikes that landed with no damage to his opponent and catastrophic damage to himself. His recovery timeline has not been announced.
McGregor last won a UFC fight in July 2024 when he stopped Dustin Poirier in their lightweight trilogy bout. He has not competed at welterweight since his 2023 knockout of Michael Chandler.
