Canelo Banks $47M For Mbilli Title Fight
Canelo Alvarez will pocket a $47 million base fee for his return to the ring against Christian Mbilli this Saturday night in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
The former unified middleweight/" class="internal-link text-bone underline decoration-ash/30 hover:decoration-gold underline-offset-2">super middleweight champion faces WBC interim titleholder Mbilli at Kingdom Arena on DAZN pay-per-view, with Boxing Scene reporting the massive purse does not include his cut of PPV buys or sponsorship revenue. Mbilli stands to earn roughly $9 million for the assignment.
Canelo's Earning Power After Crawford Loss
The payday marks a significant drop from the $94 million Alvarez banked for his mega-fight against Terence Crawford last year, a bout that cost him his WBA, WBC, IBF, WBO and Ring Magazine belts at 168 pounds. Still, the figure confirms Alvarez remains one of boxing's few guaranteed nine-figure earners despite the setback.
MMA Mania notes the Mexican star, whose net worth is estimated at $300 million, has long drawn callouts from fighters across weight classes looking to secure career-high purses. Alvarez has famously responded to such challenges with a simple retort: "You want a payday."
The Halloween night card represents Canelo's first ring appearance in over a year as he attempts to reclaim his position atop the middleweight/" class="internal-link text-bone underline decoration-ash/30 hover:decoration-gold underline-offset-2">super middleweight division.
