Volkanovski On Salkilld's UFC Sydney Main Event

Alexander Volkanovski expects teammate Quillan Salkilld to handle business against Benoit Saint-Denis at UFC Sydney next month.

Salkilld was booked to headline the promotion's February 7th card in Sydney hours after Volkanovski knocked out Movsar Evloev at UFC 333. The lightweight bout marks Salkilld's second consecutive main event following his dismantling of Mateusz Gamrot earlier this year.

Volkanovski Breaks Down Salkilld's Title Path

In a YouTube video reacting to the matchup, Volkanovski laid out what a win over Saint-Denis would mean for his City Kickboxing teammate. "A win against BSD, he should be fighting your Ilia's, Paddy's, and all that, and then fighting for a title," Volkanovski said, per MMA Junkie. "How could he not? So, that's huge. He's on a tear. I like BSD, (but) Quillan smokes him."

Saint-Denis remains a stiff test despite Volkanovski's confidence. The Frenchman sits high in the lightweight rankings and would represent Salkilld's biggest scalp to date. A dominant performance could push Salkilld into a title eliminator opposite the division's elite contenders.

Volkanovski recently floated joining Salkilld at 155 pounds for a potential superfight with champion Justin Gaethje. He indicated that bout, win or lose, would mark his retirement from competition. UFC Sydney goes down February 7th with Salkilld and Saint-Denis in the five-round main event.
