Bivol And Smith Reach Terms For WBO Title Fight

Representatives for Dmitry Bivol and Callum Smith have finalized an agreement for a WBO heavyweight/" class="internal-link text-bone underline decoration-ash/30 hover:decoration-gold underline-offset-2">light heavyweight title fight, WBO president Gustavo Oliveiri confirmed Thursday, announcing that "the parties have reached terms, including an agreed date and venue."

Bivol has competed in world title fights since 2017, with wins over Canelo Alvarez and Gilberto Ramirez. He lost the undisputed championship to Artur Beterbiev two years ago before reclaiming all the belts in their rematch the following year, and most recently beat IBF mandatory challenger Michael Eifert in May. Bivol was stripped of the WBC title after opting to pursue a trilogy with Beterbiev instead of facing WBC mandatory challenger David Benavidez.

Following elbow surgery, Bivol turned his focus to the WBO-mandated fight with Smith, a former World Boxing Super Series champion. RCC Boxing, which promotes Bivol, and Matchroom, which promotes Smith, are expected to confirm further details.
