Berlanga Goes After De La Hoya; Calls Him A Stripper
Edgar Berlanga went after Oscar De La Hoya during the boxer’s pre-fight presser with Hamzah Sheeraz.
Berlanga is looking to get back into big-time boxing after defeating JonathanGonzalez-Ortiz in his last fight. It was the perfect response following his first pro loss, which came against Canelo Alvarez in the fight before. The Canelo performance resulted in huge criticism. De La Hoya was one of those critics. He criticized the fight for going ahead as fans missed out on Canelo vs. David Benavidez. Berlanga also never looked like he could win, despite getting off the canvas to make it to the final bell.
Berlanga was also spotted celebrating in Mexico, creating the narrative that he was happy just to survive 12 rounds. This was more damning since Berlanga had called Canelo his idol immediately after the fight. Since then, Berlanga has said he would slap De La Hoya. Oscar dared Berlanga to do that the next time they saw each other. Now, at the presser, they did not hold back. Berlanga threw money, women’s underwear and a wig at De La Hoya. The actions were done in relation to previous leaked photos of De La Hoya. The Golden Boy promoter hit back by reminding him that he does not have a world title.
Reaction
"I got a [expletive] gift for my little [expletive] stripper. Remember this [expletive]? Remember that [expletive]?," Berlanga
"First of all, sit down. You have no world titles. You have no world titles. … After you win one world title, you can talk to me. This guy’s not even Puerto Rican. I been asking for your Puerto Rican passport. Where is it at? Where is your Puerto Rican passport? I’m more Puerto Rican than you. You’re having a parade for losing to Canelo. Come on! Come on, man," De La Hoya
