Bella Mir says her mother's viral social media outburst after her Dana White's Contender Series loss was driven by emotion and alcohol.
Mir entered her Week 3 matchup against Alex Apodaca as a minus-6000 favorite, the largest in DWCS history, but dropped a close unanimous decision in one of the show's most shocking upsets. Apodaca earned a UFC contract off the win while Mir's mother Jennifer posted angry comments targeting both the opponent and the judges.

Jennifer Mir Apologized After Protecting Daughter
Jennifer later walked back the posts and apologized, explaining she had reacted to online criticism directed at her daughter. Bella told Ariel Helwani the episode actually worked in her favor by redirecting attention. "My mom commenting on stuff obviously didn't really help the situation, but she honestly kind of took the fire off of me," she said, per Sherdog. "Everyone started hating on her more than hating on me."
The younger Mir chalked up the incident to maternal instinct amplified by alcohol on fight night. "I think it was just the heat of the moment," she added. "My mom is very emotional. And obviously drinking that night didn't really help."

Mir, daughter of former UFC heavyweight champion Frank Mir, fell to 4-1 with the loss. No immediate timeline has been announced for her return.
