Arman Tsarukyan: Topuria prioritized media over camp prep

Arman Tsarukyan believes Ilia Topuria's first career defeat came down to misplaced priorities heading into UFC White House.

The lightweight contender told Sherdog that Topuria spent too much energy on media appearances instead of sharpening his skills in camp. Tsarukyan suggested the loss will force the former featherweight champion to recalibrate his approach to big fights.

Tsarukyan on what Topuria needs to learn

"I think this loss is going to teach him a lot of lessons — not to be overconfident and to respect your opponent," Tsarukyan said, per Sherdog. "I think he was more focused on his media stuff more than training camp."

Topuria entered UFC White House unbeaten and riding a wave of momentum from his knockout win over Alexander Volkanovski last year. The Georgian-Spanish fighter had become one of the promotion's most vocal stars, engaging in multiple call-outs and appearing regularly on fight week content.

Tsarukyan has positioned himself as one of the top contenders at lightweight after a strong run of his own. He faces Islam Makhachev for the title at UFC 331 on June 21.
