Former UFC heavyweight/" class="internal-link text-bone underline decoration-ash/30 hover:decoration-gold underline-offset-2">light heavyweight title challenger Anthony Smith was arrested Monday night in Nebraska on three felony charges, TMZ first reported.

Sarpy County authorities detained Smith on charges of terroristic threats, first-degree false imprisonment, and domestic violence. Details surrounding the arrest have not been made public. If convicted, Smith faces up to 20 years in prison.

Smith's UFC Career And Recent Return

Smith retired from the UFC following a first-round loss to Mingyang Zhang at UFC Kansas City last year. He returned to combat sports in April under Jorge Masvidal's Gamebred Bareknuckle MMA promotion, submitting former UFC heavyweight Chase Sherman.

The 36-year-old challenged Jon Jones for the light heavyweight title at UFC 235 after knocking out Rashad Evans in 53 seconds at UFC 225. Smith also earned wins over Mauricio Rua, Volkan Oezdemir, Alexander Gustafsson, and Ryan Spann during his UFC run.

Neither Smith nor his team has issued public comment on the arrest. The charges come weeks after fellow UFC retiree Dustin Poirier was arrested on a public intoxication charge in Atlanta, an incident for which Poirier has since taken full responsibility and committed to sobriety.
