Andy Ruiz vs Damian Knyba set for September 4 on DAZN, TNT

Andy Ruiz Jr will fight Damian Knyba on September 4 at the Prudential Center in Newark, marking the former unified heavyweight champion's first bout under his new Matchroom contract.

The fight headlines September's edition of "The Fight," which streams on DAZN and airs on TNT in the United States, according to Bad Left Hook. The show is co-promoted by Matchroom and Top Rank, with Vito Mielnicki Jr facing Austin "Ammo" Williams in the chief support bout.

Ruiz ring rust and Knyba's opportunity

Ruiz (35-2-1, 22 KO) will have been out of the ring for over two years by fight night. The 36-year-old has fought just three times this decade, stopping Chris Arreola in 2021, beating Luis Ortiz in 2022, and drawing with Jarrell Miller in August 2024. He has done little since his stunning 2019 upset of Anthony Joshua, arriving at the rematch visibly out of shape six months later and losing a wide decision.

Knyba (17-1, 11 KO), a 30-year-old Polish-born heavyweight based in New Jersey, had been scheduled to fight Kacper Meyna in Poland this October before landing this opportunity. The 6-foot-7, 260-pound Knyba was stopped inside three rounds by Agit Kabayel in Germany this past January, but his size could create matchup problems for Ruiz.

Mielnicki (23-1, 13 KO), 24, recently signed with Matchroom and has rebuilt momentum after PBC and FOX pushed him too quickly early in his career. He defeated Omar Huerta by wide decision in April. Williams (20-2, 13 KO) is coming off a one-sided loss to WBC champion Carlos Adames on March 21.
