Abdullaev's 19-Second KO Earns Four DWCS Contracts
Four fighters earned UFC contracts after Tuesday's Contender Series card, headlined by Akbar Abdullaev's jaw-dropping one-punch knockout just 19 seconds into his bout with Ednilson Santos.
UFC CEO Dana White signed Abdullaev, Mayton Perea, Igor Cavalcanti, and Luis Hernandez following the Week 6 showcase at the Apex. White called Abdullaev "the greatest talent that's ever been on this show" after the former ONE Championship fighter landed a single right hand that dropped Santos face-first to the canvas, MMA Fighting reported.
DWCS Week 6 Standout Performances
Perea needed less than a minute to finish Zevan Hunt, dropping him three times before ending the fight with hammer fists at the 45-second mark. Cavalcanti stopped Oscar Ravello at 1:38 of the opening round after a straight right put Ravello on the mat, following with measured ground strikes until the referee intervened.
Hernandez earned his contract by submitting Hugo Guillon with a rear-naked choke at 1:01 of the second round. He weathered an early scare when Guillon nearly locked in a D'Arce choke, escaping to secure the finish moments later.
Tyshawn Williams won his fight via unanimous decision over Antonio Monteiro but did not receive a contract. White told him he would get another shot on the show later this season to earn his way onto the roster.
The UFC has now signed 28 fighters from Season 10 of The Contender Series heading into the final weeks of the showcase.
