Abdul Hussein submits Cody Gibson in UFC Abu Dhabi debut
Abdul Hussein finished Cody Gibson with a third-round arm-triangle choke in his UFC debut Saturday at Etihad Arena in Abu Dhabi.
Gibson, a 38-year-old bantamweight filling in on short notice, opened strong with an early takedown and peppered Hussein with submission attempts from top position through the first five minutes. Hussein defended the scrambles but gave ground on the scorecards, according to MMA Mania's live coverage.
Gibson's gas tank emptied between rounds
The tide shifted in the second when Hussein landed a heavy shot that dropped Gibson and spent the rest of the frame hunting for a finish. Gibson survived multiple submission sequences but admitted to his corner before the bell for round three that he had nothing left in the tank.
Hussein unloaded along the fence in the final stanza before dragging Gibson back to the mat and locking in the arm-triangle. Gibson tapped shortly after, handing Hussein his first Octagon win by submission at 4:37 of round three.
UFC Abu Dhabi aired live on Paramount Plus. Hussein's next booking has not been announced.
