Valter Walker Banks $100K Bonus For Fifth Submission At UFC Abu Dhabi
Heavyweight Valter Walker banked a six-figure bonus at UFC Abu Dhabi for his fifth consecutive submission finish.
Walker earned a Performance of the Night award Saturday after forcing Thomas Petersen to tap to a first-round calf slicer at Etihad Arena. The finish extended Walker's submission streak to five fights and netted him an extra $100,000, MMA Mania reported. Flyweight Ramazan Temirov also took home a performance bonus after stopping former title challenger Steve Erceg with a second-round head kick knockout.
Abu Dhabi Card Delivers Multiple Finish Bonuses
Rizvan Kuniev and Tyrell Fortune split the Fight of the Night award for their heavyweight scrap, which ended when Kuniev stopped Fortune with ground strikes in the third round. Five additional fighters collected $25,000 finish bonuses. Octagon newcomer Muhammad Saidov dropped UFC veteran Dustin Jacoby with a head kick in the second round, while bantamweight Abdul Hussein submitted Cody Gibson in his official debut. Axel Sola choked out Ismael Bonfim in the first round to snap a skid, and Sam Patterson earned his biggest career win with a second-round stoppage of Santiago Ponzinibbio.
Magomed Ankalaev closed the show by battering Bogdan Guskov over five rounds to score a late TKO in the main event. Ankalaev also took home a $25,000 finish payment. The former light heavyweight champion is now positioned for another title shot after the lopsided victory.
