Malik Scott Hits Out After AJ As Wilder Talks Continue To Stall

In today’s heavyweight boxing news, Malik Scott lost his cool after the negotiations between Deontay Wilder and Anthony Joshua continued to stall.

The pair were heavily linked with a fight in Saudi Arabia only for the bout to fall through. After long discussions with Skills Challenge Entertainment, the fight was not able to get over the line.

This was despite the fact that terms had been agreed verbally, as per Eddie Hearn. The Matchroom Boxing promoter had admitted that an agreement was in place, subject to a contract.

And yet, the power shift in Saudi boxing then emerged. The General Entertainment Authority became the leading figure in Saudi boxing, as Skills Challenge were sidelined.

As a result, that left Hearn with no choice but to seek over other venues. As of now, there is nothing to suggest that a fight is close to being agreed, which left Scott frustrated to say the least.

Scott On Wilder-AJ

“The only update I have on that is this we were scheduled for January. A month later, Usyk and Fury signed a contract to fight each other, and now the dialog about Deontay and Anthony Joshua is slowly disappearing. This is insane, it’s disgusting. What’s going on? Business is going on in boxing, and to me, business is horrible in boxing.

“From some sort of standpoint, the good thing is when these guys do fight, they get good revenue, but the weight in-between time is just like [long]. It’s unfortunate, and it’s frustrating for a head trainer; it’s frustrating for somebody who’s compassionate about a fighter like I’m compassionate about Deontay,” Scott said. “I want the best for him, and my wanting the best for him includes his activity,” Scott said

A Missed Chance

Nevertheless, both fighters did have the chance to fight for undisputed all the way back in 2019. However, contract talks broke down as both fighters would then go on to lose their belts.

And at a time when the fight no longer holds any significance by way of belts, there are question marks over whether it is warranted.

In addition, the Tyson Fury vs. Oleksandr Usyk fight has ultimately overshadowed Wilder Vs. Joshua. The former bout will give fans the chance to witness the first undisputed heavyweight champion since 1999.

That is when Lennox Lewis beat Evander Holyfield to achieve the feat. And that has had the impact of reducing the importance of Wilder vs. AJ.

Regardless of what the case may be, Malik does expect the Bronze Bomber to make his comeback some time soon. The following comments confirmed as much.

“The business sometimes turns him off so much that he kind of distances himself from boxing because, over time, the business, boxing, becomes disgusting. He just distances himself, but it’s frustrating. He’ll be back soon because training every day at least at least four or five times a week, training with me, training at home, wherever it is, he’s training,” Scott
