Malignaggi Picks Tszyu To Beat Charlo, Ennis Reacts To Charlo’s Loss

Paulie Malignaggi has picked Tim Tszyu to stop Jermell Charlo if the pair do end up facing each other.

The Australian was the WBO mandatory for Charlo only for the latter to pull out of their fight due to a hand injury. In response, the American moved up two weight classes in order to face Canelo Alvarez.

As a result, the WBO stripped Charlo as Tszyu became the full champion once the former’s fight with Alvarez began. Thereafter, Charlo lost via a unanimous decision to Canelo as he signalled his intention to move back down to junior middleweight.

That has now set up the narrative that Charlo could face Tszyu in order to become undisputed once again. And provided that happens, Malignaggi has backed Tszyu to become out victorious.

Malignaggi On Charlo

“Instead of getting Crawford, he [Charlo] should now have to fight Tim Tszyu after that performance. And if he beats Tim Tszyu, then maybe he can get Crawford. But I don’t think Jermell Charlo is hungry. And getting this 20 million racks is going to make him less hungry. I think if he fights Tim Tszyu, Tim Tszyu knocks him out. Jermell at his best was world class, but this is not a hungry fighter. This is not a guy who wants to fight, this is a guy who wants to steal the bank and who is looking for a free cheque,” Malignaggi said

Nevertheless, by Charlo’s own admission, he is looking to create the fights that would generate the most money. Although a fight with Tszyu is competitive, it would not do as much by way of a purse as a bout with Terence Crawford would.

And yet, the latter has indicated that he has no intention of facing Charlo anytime soon which has left the American with a lot to ponder moving forward.

Meanwhile, Jaron Ennis has reacted to Jermell Charlo’s loss to Canelo Alvarez.

The two boxers faced each other at super middleweight as the American jumped up from 154 pounds in order to try and become undisputed in a second weight class.

However, the fight turned out to be anything but competitive as Canelo dominated right from the off. The Mexican dropped Charlo in round seven, but it was not able to bring the fight to an end as the American made it to the final bell.

Although Charlo did manage to last with a four-division champion, the fact of the matter is that the American failed to live up to the expectations that were put on him.

Naturally, that will impact the fights that Charlo may be linked with moving forward. And looking back at it now, his standing has fallen amongst his fellow peers.

Ennis On Charlo

“I wanted Charlo to win. I thought he was going to do more than he was doing. It seemed like he was in there, to me, to survive and not get knocked out. I know Charlo could’ve did way better than that,” Ennis stated

Despite this being the case, Charlo does hold three belts at 154 pounds. That would still give the American some pulling power to secure the big fights. And yet, Crawford has already ruled out the prospect of facing Charlo given what he had seen.

That has potentially left the door open for Bud to face Canelo at 168 pounds, with questions if Charlo is still a marquee name. Find all the latest boxing news and MMA breaking updates on boxingblitz.
