Joshua Plans On Attending The Fury Vs. Usyk Fight

In the latest boxing news, Anthony Joshua is planning to attend the Tyson Fury vs Oleksandr Usyk fight.

The undisputed heavyweight championship occurs on February 17, 2024, in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Fury puts his WBC belt on the line against Usyk’s WBA, WBO and IBF belts. The winner becomes the best heavyweight of this era. Having lost twice, Joshua knows what it takes to be in the ring with Usyk. Meanwhile, a fight with Tyson Fury was entertained on two occasions.

A 60-40 offer was made twice, but it was not enough to win the fight. Joshua is coming off an impressive win against Otto Wallin. The victory has put him in a position to face Filip Hrgovic for a potential vacant IBF belt. The winner of Fury-Usyk is required to defend against their IBF mandatory; otherwise, they would be stripped.

That is currently Hrgovic, but the belt could become vacant since Fury-Usyk has a rematch clause. The outcome, therefore, is of plenty of interest to Joshua. He backed Usyk to get the win, but his goals are clear. The aim is to be a three-time heavyweight champion.

Joshua Reacts

“If it’s a fight for the heavyweight championship of the world or fight a big-name opponent, I will always choose the former because that’s the creme de la creme. It’s the most prestigious title you can win. I will try to come out again for Fury and Usyk, I tend not to go to fights, but that’s an iconic one.

“Once that fight is out of the way, then the heavyweight division opens up again and we can start leaning toward becoming champions. Every fight leads toward the final destination. I have bigger ambitions, I don’t celebrate when I win these fights, I celebrate when I win world championships,” Joshua

Following Joshua’s win, Eddie Hearn called for a fight with Tyson Fury. The fight is the biggest domestic clash, and it is a lot more competitive based on recent performances. Unlike Joshua’s win over Wallin, Fury struggled in his last fight against Francis Ngannou.

He came through with a split-decision win with many in the boxing community feeling he came up short. Meanwhile, Ben Davidson has revealed that his conversations with Joshua involved putting the Usyk loss right. So either way, there is a narrative for Joshua to face Fury or Usyk. But for Hearn, Fury was the clear target.

Joshua Vs. Fury

“There is absolutely no way Tyson Fury beats Anthony Joshua, no way! No way! But, let’s get behind Fury to beat Usyk and let’s get that fight made. That is the biggest fight of all time, in the history of the sport. It’s great for boxing if Fury Usyk is made. But my God, give me Tyson Fury now, please,” Hearn revealed

Even if those fights are possible, the winner of Fury-Usyk could very well retire. Becoming an undisputed champion is the pinnacle, meaning Joshua may not get those bouts. ‘Find all the latest boxing news and MMA breaking updates on boxingnews.com
