Jaron Ennis Signs With Matchroom - ' I'm Making My Mark, Becoming Undisputed'

Jaron Ennis has signed a multi-fight deal with Matchroom Boxing, ending his recent promotional nightmare.

Boots is the current IBF Welterweight Champion, a position he acquired after Terence Crawford was stripped for not defending his undisputed title against him. Ennis had not fought since last July when he knocked out Roiman Villa. The boxer has been going through legal issues with his former promoters.

The boxer sued NOW Boxing, claiming there was a breach of contract. Ennis claimed that his four-year agreement allowed him to box four times in the first two years and three times each in the last two years. Since that was not honored, the boxer wanted over $1 million in damages.

Ennis’ Issues

“By reason of the foregoing, a justiciable controversy exists between adverse parties, which involves a substantial legal right of Plaintiff-to wit the right to engage in his chosen livelihood and earn a living; and Plaintiff therefore seeks a Declaratory Judgment that the Agreement is void ab initio. Plaintiff seeks an order and judgment in favor of Plaintiff and against Defendant declaring that the Agreement is void,” Ennis’ team

The IBF had also ordered Boots to defend his belt against his IBF mandatory Cody Crowley. The purse bids were meant for March 19. No agreement was reached, and the WBC has now ordered Crowley to face Souleymane Cissokho in a title eliminator. The deal with Matchroom could now revive Boots’ career.

Ennis’ Deal

“I’m excited for this partnership with Eddie Hearn, Matchroom and DAZN. I can’t wait to continue making my mark and becoming undisputed World champion. I’ve been out of the ring for a year, and I cannot wait to get back in and do what I do best; entertain the fans and put on clinics. There are blockbuster fights on the horizon for me, and I am ready to deliver them,” Ennis said

Ennis’ potential next opponent could be Conor Benn. The Brit is not allowed to box in the UK following his two failed VADA tests for Clomiphene. The British Boxing Board of Control won their appeal to overturn the removal of Benn’s suspension from the National Anti-Doping Agency. That leaves Benn only boxing overseas, which he has been doing in the US. He has beaten Rodolfo Orozco and Peter Dobson in his last two fights. Now, Benn hinted at that fight by sharing a promo poster of the two.

Ennis’ Opponents

Ennis also spoke about his desire to box Crawford. Bud has not been in the ring since stopping Errol Spence Jr. The rematch broke down as Crawford moved on. He has been targeting a fight with Canelo Alvarez. However, it is no closer to being made. The Mexican dismissed Crawford, stating that he was too small. Ennis is a good match-up, allowing Bud to become undisputed at 147 again. However, Ennis may have to go up to 154 to make that happen. Either way, Boots was clear that was the fight he wanted.

“I’m not sure. He said a few times he’s not looking my way; I’m not a big enough name. But there’s nobody else left for him to fight. Either you fight me, or you fight nobody,” Ennis stated
