Jaron Ennis Says – ‘Nobody Calls Me Out At 147’

Jaron Ennis has accused the welterweight division of ducking him.

Ennis is currently preparing to take on Davis Avanesyan on July 13 from the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia. This will be his homecoming fight following his recent deal with Matchroom Boxing. Boot is the current IBF Welterweight Champion but has struggled to get the breakout fight. He was the IBF Interim Welterweight Champion, making him mandatory for Crawford.

But since Crawford was pursuing an Errol Spence Jr. rematch, even if it broke down, Bud was stripped as he moved up to 154 pounds. Ennis was also linked with a fight against the WBC Welterweight Champion Mario Barrios. Barrios became the full WBC champion following his interim title, as Crawford was named a ‘Champion in Recess.’ An Ennis-Barrios fight would have been a huge unification fight. The failure to get those fights means Ennis must focus fully on beating Avanesyan.

Ennis Reacts

“I am the only name that nobody calls at 147. I don’t think no man is scared of another man, but when you hear other people call everyone out, they don’t call me out. The only people that really call me out is somebody that’s irrelevant that nobody cares about. I want to have a great legacy and beat all of the best guys. I’m just getting started. I feel like I am getting in my prime. I know I can beat anybody they put in front of me,” Ennis said

Nevertheless, that could all change with the Matchroom Deal. They are now working closely with the Saudis, making it possible to make the biggest fights. Ennis has already been pictured with Turki Alalshikh, who has expanded Riyad Season beyond Saudi Arabia. The Kingdom will hold its first-ever card in the region on August 3. This is when Terence Crawford headline against Israil Madrimov.

Ennis’ Aims

Crawford also works closely with the Saudis, making a possible Crawford-Boots fight happen. But this would likely require Ennis to move up to 154. Another alternative is to fight Devin Haney. The Dream has hinted at the idea of a move up to 147. His father, Bill Haney, also mentioned that it was a possible fight. Since Ennis and Haney are close with Matchroom, the fight could be made. Regardless, Ennis wanted to face the best.

“I can’t wait to put on a show and display my talent. I am ready. [And] I am super-prepared. I am in phenomenal shape. I am ready to rock and roll. I’m not trying to be down here playing at 147 for too long. After this fight, I want to face everyone who has a belt. I want them all.

“I’ll fight anybody. I don’t care who it is. I’m going to do my thing regardless. I want to show the world my skills and abilities. I haven’t gotten into my bag yet. Nobody has seen the best of me. My advantage is everything. I can box and bang, fight orthodox or southpaw, have a great jab and defense. Whatever you need, I got it,” Ennis stated
