Isaac Cruz Calls Out Ryan Garcia - 'I’m Not About To Dodge, I'm Ready'

Isaac Cruz is ready to face Ryan Garcia after becoming the new WBA Junior Welterweight Champion.

Pitbull secured an eighth-round knockout win over Rolando Romero on PBC’s first PPV with Amazon Prime Video. The Mexican dominated the fight and was close to getting Romero out of the ring twice before the stoppage in round eight.

The Mexican landed a huge left hook in the first round as Romero’s legs stumbled backwards. Rolly also survived a barrage of pressure in the seventh round as he was completely outclassed. After his victory, Cruz wanted the biggest names. Now, Garcia has been mentioned for a big fight.

Cruz On Garcia

“I don’t have anything to say to Gervonta (Davis), really. He can whatever he wants, but we silenced the doubters tonight. If he isn’t scared, let’s go for the rematch. Ryan Garcia can say whatever he wants. I’ll make him eat all the trash he talks, just like I did with Rolly. This wasn’t just me. It was something I accomplished thanks to the support of my family….I’m not about to dodge Ryan Garcia. I’m ready to fight him at 140 if he wants to. [And] I’m ready,” Cruz said

Garcia had a mixed reaction towards Pitbull’s performance, stating he had seen his style throughout the years. He also backed himself to come out on top in any bout, but his focus has to be on Devin Haney. Ryan faces Haney on April 20 for the chance to win the WBC Junior Welterweight Title.

The build-up has been clouded by claims that Garcia is not mentally well. He has admitted to smoking weed and drinking alcohol. He also continues to press ahead with his activism for various social causes, including trafficking. If he gets past Haney, he could find himself with a chance to unify the division. By the looks of it, Garcia is ready for that challenge.

Garcia Reacts

“In the end I respect pitbull. He’s a small fighter able to ko bigger fighters. A fight would be great!!! Let’s do it one day. I’m focused on the task ahead but that would be fun. I would sleep Cruz you guys are delusional after I ko Haney I would gladly handle him easy,” Garcia stated

Nevertheless, facing Cruz is a big risk. A defeat against the Mexican will damage Garcia’s chances of getting the Gervonta Davis rematch. He has admitted that his primary aim is to fight Tank at 140, given he was not at his best in their first fight. The 136-pound catchweight and ten-pound rehydration clause led to claims that Garcia was weight-drained.

Since Davis has already beaten Cruz, losing to him makes Garcia’s stock fall even further. But since Cruz has a belt, facing him allows Garcia another world title shot if he comes up short against Haney. That may be enough for him to take that fight since he was on course to face Romero before talks broke down and Rolly lost to Cruz.
