Gervonta Davis’ Trainer Promises A Loma KO - 'He 'Won’t See The 12th'

Kenny Ellis, Gervonta Davis’ co-trainer, has promised a knockout of Vasiliy Lomachenko

The comments were made in response to the rumors that the fight could happen next. Davis is coming off an eighth-round knockout win over Frank Martin as he retained his WBA Lightweight Belt. In the post-fight comments, Davis stated that he wanted all the big fights, with Loma looking increasingly likely. Ellis has already began studying film of the Ukrainian to devise a winning plan.

An increasing number of fight highlights have been uploaded, showing Loma’s exceptional boxing skills. Ellis did not take those comments well; he expected Tank to knock him out. Davis has a 30-0 record, with 28 wins by knockout. He is also facing Lomachenko at the tail end of his career. Loma is 36, and Davis ducked the Ukrainian when he was at his peak. But Ellis warned those backing the Ukrainian that the fight would not go the distance.

Davis’ Trainer

“Phase 3 Studying Lomachenko: Why all of a sudden are these Lomachenko highlight videos popping up? Are they supposed to be intimidating or something? He won’t see the 12th with Gervonta Davis,” Kenny Ellis said

Teofimo Lopez has been impressed by Davis, as he recalled their sparring session. Lopez hit out at Davis, stating that his career had been manufactured to avoid the big names. Davis’ biggest win is the Ryan Garcia fight last year. He stopped Ryan in the seventh round in a fight that sold over 1.2 million PPVs.

However, Garcia was depleted as he fought at a 136-pound catchweight and had a ten-pound rehydration clause. Davis has done this on more than one occasion, as his win over Mario Barrios at 140 also included a rehydration clause. Lopez then remembered the sparring session in the early parts of their career. The Takeover mentioned how Davis hurt himself when he landed a big shot, which made him realize that he was a different fighter from Tank.

Lopez On Davis

“We [Tank Davis and I] got speed, power, IQ, but there is a difference between me and him; I didn’t get babied into this… I’m really like that. I don’t wipe the blood when I’m bleeding; I fight. Him, he complains. I remember when we spared. he hit me in my big nose, and he [messed] up his hand. He was like, ‘Ah, [damn]/I was 15, and he was 18…Gervonta ain’t going to fight me. He’s too much of a [wuss]. So, I’d rather go after the guy that has too much of an ego, and that’s Terence Crawford,” Lopez added

The chances of Davis and Lopez meeting in the ring are not that high. But Davis has fought at 140 pounds before. Lopez has the WBO belt after beating Josh Taylor at 140. That gives Davis an incentive to make that fight once he cleans up at 135 pounds. But to make that fight, Lopez has to recognize that he will be the B-side. If there is a rehydration clause in place, it may prevent it from being made.
