Fans Rip Eubank Jr. For Calling Himself Great
Fans have ripped Chris Eubank Jr. after he considered himself a great fighter.
Eubank’s record stands at 33-3 with with 24 KOs. However, at the elite level, he has come up short. He has losses to Billy Joe Saunders and George Groves. Chris did pick up the vacant IBO Middleweight Title with a win over James DeGale. He secured the biggest win of his career against Liam Smith in his last fight.
He stopped the Liverpudlian, which avenged the defeat he experienced in the first fight. Eubank Jr. has since then signed with BOXXER. He was in talks with Canelo Alvarez before the Mexican pursued the Edgar Berlanga fight. While that fight could happen later, Eubank has plenty of unfinished business. He wanted to look back at his career with pride, which meant he had to write more chapters in his legacy.
Eubank Reacts
“The number one driving factor for me becoming what my father didn’t think I could become, becoming what no one thought I could become – which is a great fighter. Secondary was I want that lifestyle. I want to be somebody. I want to continue my family name,” Eubank said
His next fight will be against Kamil Szeremeta on October 12. Szeremeta is 25-2-2 with eight knockouts. He has four wins out of his last five fights, with the other being a split draw. Eubank is expected to come through this fight with ease as he sets his sights on Erislandy Lara in the future. Lara is the WBA Champion at 160, as Eubank aims to finally win a recognizable title.
There have been the major question marks over his career, with the IBO belt not gaining much recognition. He also can rematch Saunders after the latter expressed his desire to run things back if the money is right. Eubank would be the favorite since Saunders has not boxed since losing to Canelo in 2021. But Eubank recognized that he must balance the legacy fights and the lucrative ones.
Eubank’s Future
“That’s definitely a fight that’s of great interest to me. I haven’t got a middleweight world title. I’ve always dreamed of having it and the fight’s there. It’s right there. The name Lara is not the most appealing, no. But the world title is for sure. That’s like a personal thing. Financially, there’s way bigger fights out there, but having that world title that’s another level,” Eubank stated
Eubank is now 34, meaning it is vital he keeps himself active. The Smith fight was his first under his new trainer, Brian McIntyre. It is not clear if they will continue to have a long-term relationship together. However, if Eubank desires to secure the biggest wins, he must keep his team tight. He had been vocal about his falling out with his father, who had been in his corner for so long. However, his father has said if Eubank Jr. secures a win against Canelo, he will redeem himself. So can Eubank get the Canelo fight?
