Jake Paul Stuns Boxing World With First-Round Uppercut KO Of Pro-Boxer Andre August
Jake Paul secured a sensational first-round knockout of Andre August to give him his first win over a professional boxer.
Coming into the cruiserweight clash, there was pressure on Paul to perform. His only experience of facing a professional boxer came against Tommy Fury, where he lost via a split decision. Although he bounced back against Nate Diaz with a win, he still had question marks over his resume. But the ‘Problem Child’ put those critics to bed by landing a stunning uppercut with around 30 seconds left in the first round. August failed to get up as the referee waved off the fight.
Paul’s Uppercut Ends It All
That was August’s second defeat after his his loss to Eric Abraham back in 2018. The win was all the more impressive since August recently secured a unanimous decision win over Brandon Martin in November. This was even if August was out of the ring for four years before that. Paul could garner a rematch with Tommy Fury or secure a bout with KSI. Either way, it takes him closer to his dream of becoming a world champion.
Reaction
“I said first-round knockout all week. I manifested it. I said I needed to go back to the old ‘Problem Child.’ I’ve been too nice to people. He went night-night… I don’t know what I proved tonight. I’m just going to do me… He didn’t even last two minutes… All I wanted to do was give you a knockout for Christmas.
“More boxing prospects [next]. More experience. More time in the ring. Under the bright lights staying active. And if the money fights come, I got smoke for them too. But right now I’m focused on being one of the best in the world and creating one of the greatest sports stories in the history of sports.’
“A couple of years ago, I didn’t really have any challenges. I was just beating everybody, not really focused, doing stuff outside of the gym I shouldn’t have been. And now I’m lasered in. I found my spiritually.
And that’s changed my whole entire life and staying on the grind, in the gym, consistent.’ Everyone who has something to say about me,’’ Paul said. “Oh, he can’t do this. He can’t sell. He’s not big. What is he doing fighting this guy, fighting that guy? Shut the (expletive) up!” Paul stated
